Ahead of their Planet Loud sponsored UK trek and the release of their stunning new album, Insects, Planet Loud spoke to Paul Isola from Brit metallers Breed 77.

Planet Loud – So, how are things with Breed 77 at the moment?
Breed 77 – Things are hotting up towards release time and it’s an exciting time – we’re dying to get back on the scene with an almighty bang!

Planet Loud – The new album is finally due out in September but this wasn’t the original release date. Why the delay?
Breed 77 – Boring industry suff! Basically the current financial crisis has caused the industry to change and we just wanted to make sure we secured the best release for the album.

Planet Loud – How frustrating was that for you, especially after coming back off a successful UK tour?
Breed 77 – It was frustrating at first but it just means we’ve had more time to ensure that the album is killer!

Planet Loud – Despite the lack of mainstream coverage and press, your tours are always well attended and people always come out to your shows. What do you put that down to?
Breed 77 – We’ve always prided ourselves on putting on the best show we can – playing as if its our last gig – and we are very honoured that people have repayed us with unflinching loyalty that money can’t buy.

Planet Loud – How frustrating is it when you look at some of the newer bands like Bring Me The Horizon and Enter Shikari who the press throw coverage at?
Breed 77 – Not at all, we are creating art rather than taking part in sports – we don’t compete with anyone we just do our thing, the only thing I can think of when it comes to these younger bands is ,’good on them!’ We can only wish them the best.

Planet Loud – Having been around for over 10 years now, are you happy with the level you are at?
Breed 77 – I think ambition will forever push us to want to be better musicians, songwriters and more successful at what we do.

Planet Loud – What are your goals for the future?
Breed 77 – As always; to be able to continue making and playing music that people connect with for a long time to come.

Planet Loud – Over the years though you’ve achieved a hell of a lot as a band, what has been your proudest moment to date?
Breed 77 – Too may come to mind, amongst them; playing as sole support at the Black Sabbath reunion gig, Main stage Donnington 2004 – first on to a capacity crowd! Also playing our national football stadium in Gibraltar in front of our families.

Planet Loud – And in Europe you’re still landing big gigs, do you ever feel like relocating back to Gibraltar?
Breed 77 – Every day it rains in the UK………. We’re on the road constantly so I don’t think it would make much difference.

Planet Loud – Moving forward you have the new album is coming out, what did you want to achieve with it?
Breed 77 – We want people to see us in a new light, as a different evolved Breed77 with a stronger purpose than ever before and still a force to be reckoned with….

Planet Loud – Compared to previous albums there are less cultural influences and more ball-to-the-wall rock. Was that a conscious move?
Breed 77 – Yeah – we wanted to capture the vibe of our live shows and obviously I think we were angrier on this record, all in all the album is it’s own beast – a collection of songs from the place the band is at that moment.

Planet Loud – Lyrically what inspired the album this time?
Breed 77 – The state of world affairs and the state of our society – likening it to an insect colony – basically observing how the masses seem to eke out a meagre existence for the benefit of their leaders.

Planet Loud – You chose to put Zombie on the end which, for a long time now, has been a live favourite. Why did you choose now?
Breed 77 – It had previously been available as a b-side, but we felt it’s popularity had earned a spot on the album – so everyone could have it.

Planet Loud – What are your plans following the release of the album?
Breed 77 – We are on tour in spain in september/october then a stormin’ tour of the UK in november, which will be the full ‘Insects’ production with some very special guests, then on to Europe till Christmas.

Planet Loud – Looking to the future, what are your hopes and ambitions for the band?
Breed 77 – We always want to go on to greater things – there are still so many places we haven’t played…..yet!

Planet Loud – Describe Breed 77 in 2009.
Breed 77 – Heavy, angry, relevant….hungry.

Planet Loud – Thanks for your time guys, anything else you want to say?
Breed 77 – As always we’d like to thank everyone that supports us – our fans in the UK, the people who keep coming to our shows… the best is yet to come.
