Dream Evil
In The Night
Century Media
Since their ‘Dragonslayer’ debut in 2002 Dream Evil have been steadily rising to the top of the Power Metal genre, and latest album ‘In The Night’ is set to continue that trend. This is not much of a departure for the band; in fact it pretty much follows the same formula and themes as all the previous albums. But that’s not too important because what they have produced is still extremely good.
Opening track ‘Immortal’ sets the tone for the album, and it’s a tone that is rarely broken, but when it is, it is for the aptly named ‘The Ballard’. Which is good and makes for a nice break during the middle of the album. That aside and it’s the high quality power metal that you have come to expect from Dream Evil. The title track and ‘Electric’ stand out as possible crowd pleases but just about any track of the album could easily be fitted into a live set with little complaint. It is however that the album closes on a low point, ‘The Unchosen One’. For some reason it doesn’t fit with the rest of the album and unfortunately stands out like a sore thumb.
That aside however and ‘In The Night’ is a good album. It’s not the best that Dream Evil has released but it’s not far off. More importantly is that with this album the band have managed to continue their growth within the power metal scene. Although it’s not a wholly original album, it doesn’t need to be. It does the job it was required to do and it does it very well indeed.
