Dyscarnate
And So It Came To Pass
SOAR Records
The British death metal scene has been a bit stagnant over the last few years and, when I talk about the death metal scene, I don’t mean than bands with swept fringes and those shitty scene t-shirts, I’m talking about bands like Ingested and Trigger The Bloodshed who, are few and far between these days. Thankfully, there are bands like Dyscarnate and their new album And So It Came To Pass to keep things ticking along nicely.
Kicking off with the Deicide soaked fury of In The Face Of Armageddon, And So It Came To Pass dispenses with the pleasantries fairly quickly preferring instead to get down to the business at hand. The business at hand, if you need ask, is playing some of the gnarliest death metal we’ve had the displeasure of hearing in a long time from a UK band. In fact, not since the first couple of Trigger albums have we heard a British band play death metal this fucking ugly. Take The Promeathan for example or the fantastic Grinding Down The Gears, both pungent belches of proper gruesome death metal. Blending together a good mix of the European and American greats of the death metal scene – Decapitated, Morbid Angel and Deicide – and a dash of that ugly British stubbornness that metal bands in the UK have to possess, And So It Came To Pass is as good as any offering by the big names in the scene and it will only take one spin of tracks like Engraving Ectasy to realise you’re listening to an album that can certainly hold its own.
