Immortal Sense
Call It Anything
Rising Records
There is no denying that Japan has a huge metal scene with some of the most fanatical fans around, but it is rare that you see Japanese metal band make a name for themselves outside of their homeland. There are a few, most notably Dir En Grey but in general it’s a rare occurrence. But maybe now there is another name to add to that very short list in Immortal Sense or as they are known in Japan, Enema. Having signed to Rising Records in the UK the band has just released their debut album ‘Call It Anything’, and it’s rather impressive.
The opening track is a little slow starting with it not really kicking in till around its midpoint, but once it gets going it along with the album really takes you on a journey. The bands progressive mix of death and thrash make for an intriguing and exciting listen, with you never quite knowing what is around the corner. It is left to tracks like ‘Dual’ and the action packed blast of ‘Low Down’ to really showcase what this band can do, but take nothing away from the rest of the album, every track is a great slab of thrash/death metal. Still there are times when the vocals don’t always quite fit with the music, but even in these situations you get a feeling that there is a point to it, and for the most part it still works.
Immortal Sense have produce a great debut album, in ‘Call It Anything’. It’s an intelligent, progressive and striking album and one that should mean that Japan has another internationally successful metal band to add to its ranks.
