ChaseThisCity

Can you introduce yourselves please?
We are Carl Thomas 19 (Bass/Vocals) Jeff Moore 22 (Guitar/Vocals), Hunter Moore 19 (Lead Guitar) and Dan Waddock 21 (Drums) and we form the band ChaseThisCity from Lancaster in the North of the UK.

Can you give us a quick background to the band? When you formed, any CDs out?
We formed in early 2008 when Dan (Drummer) got back from working on the Oil Rigs in America. He came knocking on Jeff’s door one Saturday morning seeing if I wanted to start a band. We played our first show on Independence Day in 2008 (July 4th). We are all based in Lancaster. We have released a 6 track E.P. called Show Us What You’ve Got! in July and is available to purchase online or at one of our shows.

Why did you form a band?
We all love music and performing in front of people. It gives us a buzz/adrenaline rush that we can’t get anywhere else. It’s why we get up in a morning and what makes life worth living. Playing songs that you have created as band and having other people enjoy listening and watching you perform those songs is even better.

Which band or musicians have had the biggest impact on your life?
Blink 182 are a massive influence on the band we all grew up listening to them and they were kind of a sound track for our teenage years. Tom Delonge is the reason why Jeff picked up the guitar. I thought if he can do it anyone can. Carl’s massively influenced by Reuben. Dan is a huge The Rev from A7X fan as well as Hunter and Jeff are massive fans of Zachy and Syn from A7X.

Can you describe your sound to our readers?
It’s Pop/Rock/Punk but with a dark twist that gives us the edge over all these pops punk bands that are out at the moment. There’s a massive flood of YouMeAtSix sound a likes at the moment which is flooding the market place. We want to rise above that pack. A lot of our songs are in minor keys but to switch between major and minor keys as well to give our songs more depth.

Describe your live show to us.
Awesome! Too many bands just stand in one place and play their instruments. People want to be entertained and not feel like their listening to a cd. It’s really important that we make an impact visually as well as musically. Hunter and Jeff are usually standing on small podiums either side of Carl spinning round and pulling rock star shapes! We link songs into each other extend intro’s and have a laugh with the audience too. Audience participation is important to make them feel part of the show.

Tell us about your first gig together?
It was on Independence Day 2008 in Morecambe. It was a cancer charity show for St John’s Hospice. One of Jeff’s best friends Dad died through cancer and we decided to do something positive and raise money for the Hospice that looked after him. We were nervous as hell as we didn’t want to ruin an important night. It went great and raised about £1000.

Any funny gig stories you can tell us about?
Well on the way to a gig. Hunter ended up in Fleetwood instead of Manchester which is completely in the opposite direction. He didn’t realize till he got there! Hunter can get lost in a bath tub! We had to smooth it over with the promoters but they saw the funny side. At Manchester Academy we had a coach of fans coming to watch us from Lancaster. Carl was on the coach with them and got all our fans drunk. They were running round the venue going crazy. It was good fun to watch.

What are your goals with the band?
World Domination! Just to get our music out to the widest audience possible and to get some acclaim for what we are doing. We hope one day to play the festivals in the UK like Leeds Reading and Download. Even on the smallest stages would be a dream come too. A head in the clouds moment would be to play on The Warped Tour in America or to support Blink 182!

What do you think about the rock scene at the moment?
In the UK it’s getting better a lot better. There is a really strong indie scene but now there is a growing Punk/Pop/Rock scene coming through. There is a flood of YouMeAtSix sound a likes like I said, but its better then there being none. There’s a lot more competition with MySpace and YouTube which means we have to raise our game. 5 years ago everything came over from America. I don’t know whether it’s got anything to do with the recession that we are looking inwards to bands in England.

What are your upcoming plans?
We are shooting a video for our song Loves Overrated. Trying to get onto tours with signed bands. Any offers anyone!

Which member of the band has the most annoying habit?
We all pick our noses but Hunter picks his bum!

If you had a question for any musician out there alive or dead, who would it be for and what would the question be?
To any members of Blink 182. Can you please take us on tour with you?
What advice would you give someone thinking of forming a band?
Only form a band if your 100% committed. If you start letting people down you get a bad name for yourself and the others involved in the band even though it might not be their fault.

Thanks for your time. Anything else to say, plug, complain about, promote?
Check us out on the internet at www.myspace.com/chasethiscity . We also have a link to our big cartel from there where you can get our E.P. Show Us What You’ve Got! Badges, T-shirts etc.
