Hold Your Horses
Can you introduce yourselves please?
Hey! We are ‘Hold Your Horse Is’; a three piece rock band from North London/Brighton/Frimley.
Can you give us a quick background to the band? When you formed, any CDs out?
Our line up was completed at the start of 2008 and we played our first show in May, although due to other projects, this band didn’t really get going seriously till the start of 2009. We have fortunately sold out of all the physical copies of our last two releases, but you can buy a sampler with them on from our bigcartel or download them off itunes!
Why did you form a band?
We have all been playing in bands on the local scene since we were little teenagers! Robin and Chris started jamming with each other for fun, then wrote some songs they liked and decided they needed a bassist which is where I got involved.
Which band or musicians have had the biggest impact on your life?
Loads of bands have blown our minds at one point or the other over the years. Local bands like Reuben, Hundred Reasons and Meet Me in St. Louis showed us that you could make an impact even if you were from boring suburbia. Bands like At The Drive-In and Refused showed us how you can be completely awesome all of the time!
Can you describe your sound to our readers?
The worst comparison we ever had was like ‘like indie but heavy;’ which is bullocks! Better comparisons say we are mish mash of 90s American indie (Fugazi, Jawbox, Cap n’Jazz) and 00’s post hardcore (Reuben, Million Dead, At the Drive-In).
Describe your live show to us..
Relentless.
Tell us about your first gig together?
Nervous!
Any funny gig stories you can tell us about?
Chris once trashed his drum kit and almost split my head open with a cymbal, that was pretty good, not sure about funny though! We once played the small rock room of a ‘super club’ in Kingston and the bouncer wouldn’t let Chris in because he had a can of coke in his pocket… amazing!
What are your goals with the band?
To play music we like to as many people as possible!
What do you think about the rock scene at the moment?
Not really sure what it consists of, too focused on music of the past or small underground bands! I like that single by Biffy Clyro called ‘That Golden Rule’ though!
What are your upcoming plans?
Play, record, play, record, play!
Which member of the band has the most annoying habit?
Probably me and my sleeping.
If you had a question for any musician out there alive or dead, who would it be for and what would the question be?
Kurt Cobain, would you still be as awesome if you were still alive?
What advice would you give someone thinking of forming a band?
If you want wealth, lasting fame and free time… don’t!
Thanks for your time. Anything else to say, plug, complain about, promote?
