Morgue Orgy
Can you introduce yourselves please?
Alright Grot Bags! Were Morgue Orgy! Pence – guitar, Prok – guitar, Uncle Holloway – bass, Tommy – drums, Carter – keys + vocals, Gray vocals.
Can you give us a quick background to the band? When you formed, any CDs out?
We got together just over a year ago, four of us were in a band prior to Morgue Orgy which disbanded. Then we got Holloway and Tom in and we gelled straight away. There was an instant connection that made writing and jamming so easy! We released our debut EP ‘The River And I’ on the 14th of December 2009 which is available from our Myspace (myspace.com/morgueorgy) or you can download from iTunes or Amazon MP3.
Why did you form a band?
We all knew each other before we started so it was quite obvious to do it as we all love to have a laugh and play music.
Which band or musicians have had the biggest impact on your life?
There is too many to name! Being from Birmingham and seeing great bands like Napalm Death, Sabbath, Judas Priest, GBH, Anaal Nathrakh (list goes on) achieve great things has an impact. They all worked hard to get where they have so that drives us to hopefully be one of those great bands from Birmingham in the future.
Can you describe your sound to our readers?
It’s basically just a mixture of our favourite types of metal. There’s a bit of thrash, death metal, black metal, prog, power metal, grind. So I suppose there’s something in there for everyone!
Describe your live show to us..
When we get on stage our two main goals are to have a laugh and entertain the crowd. We take our musicianship seriously live but we don’t take ourselves seriously at all on stage. There’s no point in us trying to act cool or whatever because we are just a bunch of dorks!
Tell us about your first gig together?
We played in front of a decent crowd in Birmingham at Eddies and it went down really well. We made sure we were tight and the songs were tight before we played so as not to disappoint.
Any funny gig stories you can tell us about?
Something funny always happens at our gigs. Carter or Gray are usually sick at some point even on stage!
Holloway made a utility suit the once, and stuck various useful items to it such a TV remote and BBQ sauce!
And Jumanji on VHS! I stuck that on there too! It was awkward to play in but really useful at the same time!
We always give each other shit when we play like yanking each others leads out and tripping each other up! The occasional wrestling match commences mid song too!
What are your goals with the band?
We try not to think too far into the future because we’re still a new band trying to write and do as many gigs as possible! We are planning on starting up a food chain called Morgue Burger, and eventually have a Morgue Orgy video game!
What do you think about the rock scene at the moment?
Nothing to say!
What are your upcoming plans?
This year we plan to record a new album, which we have already written a shit load for. Again, we are concentrating on the live aspect, playing as many gigs as possible to get our music heard!
Which member of the band has the most annoying habit?
Prok and Ben have the most annoying habits…. neither of them smoke!
If you had a question for any musician out there alive or dead, who would it be for and what would the question be?
I’ve heard Colonel Sanders was a great guitarist so we would ask him for his original secret recipe for Kentucky Fried Chicken!
What advice would you give someone thinking of forming a band?
To anybody starting a band, don’t try to copy other people’s music to become successful as it makes it boring when you have a dozen bands that sound the same!
Just take influence from the bands you like and try to create something new. Also when you are doing gigs, you need to network with the other bands as they may be able to do you a favour in the future!
Dam right! We’ve played with some awesome bands and had a laugh but a couple of bands we have played with won’t even talk to you or even come out of their dressing room! That’s not what being in a band is all about!
Thanks for your time. Anything else to say, plug, complain about, promote?
Yeah I have a comment!
