Suicide City
Can you introduce yourselves please?
Kalle, singer of Suicide City.
Can you give us a quick background to the band? When you formed, any CDs out?
We formed in 2005 and shortly after we put out our EP, Not My Year. After that we toured the country a few times over with bands like Taking Back Sunday, Mindless Self Indulgence, Danzig, Gwar, Otep, etc. Now we are currently getting ready to release our first full length album Frenzy on August 4th with The End Records.
Why did you form a band?
Because becoming a doctor or lawyer made too much sense. I also love music, so why the hell not?
Which band or musicians have had the biggest impact on your life?
I would have to say Freddie Mercury, Iggy Pop, Michael Jackson, Bjork, Mike Patton, Robert Smith, Jello Biafra, Trent Reznor, Danny Elfman, Beth Gibbons, The Beastie Boys, Simon Le Bon, and Tom Araya.
Can you describe your sound to our readers?
I would say we are quite diverse with elements of pop, punk, new wave, goth, and metal. But to sum it up, we are a hot sexy mess looking for a good time.
Describe your live show to us.
It’s like watching a very organized train wreck while drinking full throttle and having a seizure.
Tell us about your first gig together?
Our first gig was in New Jersey at a little dive called The Saint. I can’t speak for everyone else, but I was so nervous before the show I had to go number two, four times. Oh yeah, and the show was great!
Any funny gig stories you can tell us about?
The last night of tour with MSI on Halloween, I got punched in the face in the middle of our set with a whole rotisserie chicken that was wrapped around one of MSI’s crew members hand like a boxing glove. Oh, and did I mention I was wearing a female cheerleading outfit? 30 seconds after I was punched, I started puking. It was fucking hilarious.
What are your goals with the band?
Make people smile and have a ridiculously good time.
What do you think about the rock scene at the moment?
I’m feeling a lot of bands that have been coming out recently. Tons of great talent. For the most part though, people just wanna rock out and let loose in these hard times. I feel like the scene is still strong.
What are your upcoming plans?
We are releasing the album on August 4th. Then August 5th we play our album release show at the Highline Ballroom in NYC. After that, tour tour tour tour ‘til I rot.
Which member of the band has the most annoying habit?
Me. Yea I’m going to go with me, hands down.
If you had a question for any musician out there alive or dead, who would it be for and what would the question be?
My question would go to Freddie Mercury. I would simply ask him, why is your voice so perfect? Did you make a deal with the devil?
What advice would you give someone thinking of forming a band?
Run to the hills…
Thanks for your time. Anything else to say, plug, complain about, promote?
I have plenty of things to say, but I can’t because I don’t want to get arrested again. I will however plug our debut album.”Frenzy” comes out August 4th, 2009 and our album release show/party is August 5th 2009 at the Highline Ballroom in New York City!
