Rammstein
Terra Firma, Athens
28 June 2010
Having read the reviews, seen the DVDs and heard the rumours, you can”t but be curious about what to expect when this Industrial Panzer takes to the stage and that just about sums up the feeling of over ten thousand weirdos that gathered this evening.
Despite being Gods now, Rammstein still had to try hard to win over an audience that, over the last decade, had seen many shows, and while most of the time recognises effort they always expects the best from a band as big as this. Having one of the most impressive stages I”ve ever seen and with a theatrical show ideal for pyromaniacs all they have to do is take advantage of that and reveal their lusty appetites to us. Taking to the stage thirty minutes later than planned, there was no o doubt they played well but there was always something that kept this from being an amazing night. Some blamed it on the rather cold attitude of the band and their lack of communication with the audience while others expected a different set list while others had seen more pyrotechnics and more songs at shows in other countries. My personal opinion, as someone who isn’t a fan, is that sometimes you can”t be as good as you really want yourself to be.
Although most of their hits were in the set list – Keine Lust, Feuer Frei and Du Hast as well as the most recent Pussy – and most of the songs were visually enhanced with impressive effects it just wasn”t really enough tonight. Don”t get me wrong, this was no way a bad show but it just didn’t live up to some of their previous shows. Fans say that a Rammstein show can be an unforgettable experience so I for one, look forward to seeing them put on a show that is equal to their reputation.
