Red Enemy
(Dublin, Ireland)
There is something about metalcore produced over this side of the water that seems more genuine than some of our American counterparts. Take bands like Demoriliser and, these boys from Dublin, their sound seems a lot rougher, a lot edgier, a lot grittier than their American counterparts who can boast of big studios to produced their brutal yet polished sound. Bands like Red Enemy don’t have that. They don’t have the luxury of growing up in sunny Los Angeles, they don’t have festivals like Mayhem Festival or Ozzfest or whatever it is these days. These boys sounds angry because they are angry, not because some tosser in a suit is promising them regular airplay on MTV if they scream a bit. This is pissed off technical metalcore played by a bunch of mates who’ve sweated blood in some grim rehearsal room in the back streets of Dublin. As Red Enemy show, it doesn’t get more real than that and you can see what we mean by picking up their EP which is due out later this year.
