The modern death metal scene is an overcrowded world so bands are doing anything to stand out these days. For the release of their Gates Of Punishment album last year, Rose Funeral enlisted the help of an Opera singer and a death metal legend. For their next album they’re even considering fusing country music with death metal as Ryan from the band revealed.

Planet Loud – Hey guys, thanks for your time. How are things at the moment?
Rose Funeral – - Hey guys things are going great! We are currently booking some tours in the states and out!

Planet Loud – You’ve said the album is a huge step forward for Rose Funeral -, what did you mean by that?
Rose Funeral – This album is a big step for us because of the musicianship. We added faster drums, in your face guitar solos, and just over all a beast sound! We are very proud of this release, but cant wait to show you whats next from here!

Planet Loud – Is the end result close to your vision for Rose Funeral?
Rose Funeral – Actually it was a good result, but its not close. We still are growing as a band. With the next sound it will be more technical. We definitely want to turn some heads and have them say “WOW this is Rose Funeral?”

Planet Loud – What was inspiring you when you were writing this record?
Rose Funeral – We were inspired by old school death metal quite a bit, but we put a faster touch on it. We really like the old school slam beats, you know the fast kick and half time snare with the dundundun guitar parts (Think Decapitated). HEAVY!

Planet Loud – Having been together for a number of years now, are you happy with where Rose Funeral – are at this stage in their career?
Rose Funeral – We all just love playing music. Whether its in front of 10 kids 100 kids or 1000 kids, its always a blast! But yes we do hope to climb the ladder in the death metal industry!

Planet Loud – Where do you see the sound developing from here?
Rose Funeral – The new sound will be a lot more technical. Less breakdowns. We love breakdowns, but it just sucks that EVERY band is over using them. I think we have ran our course with em. We still will keep some, but they will be tastefully done. We always will have the melody. If you know Rose Funeral -, you know we love our melody and harmonies!

Planet Loud – Do you think this album will set you apart from a very overcrowded modern death metal scene?
Rose Funeral – It’s tough to say since everyone is so picky about what they like anymore with the over populated scene. It’s getting harder to stand out. Although I havent seen someone fuse country and death yet.. hmmmm! The next album we will focus on a theme. We might take it back old school and add new school touch with technicality, but we will see!

Planet Loud – Going on to the album, you have a couple of guest appearances, how did they come about?
Rose Funeral – We actually met Steve Tucker and Kate Alexander in the studio. They were friends with the studio owner and we definitely had to use their voice!

Planet Loud – Like you said, you used the talents of former Morbid Angel vocalist Steve Tucker, what was that like?
Rose Funeral – All I can say is. BAD ASS! Steve is such a great guy. Awesome dude and a great friend. I asked him if he wanted to do a guest spot and he instantly said hell yeah! I was stoked to have such a legend on our album!

Planet Loud – Is it a fair conclusion to say that Morbid Angel are a big influence on the band? That being the case, what do you think of their new direction?
Rose Funeral – We do love old school and we were inspired by quite a bit of older Death Metal bands. I think the new Morbid Angel is sick to be honest! I have listened to it quite a bit along with the new Decapitated CD!

Planet Loud – You also made use of a local opera singer on the album. How did that come about and did she take much convincing?
Rose Funeral – She was also a friend of Joe’s at the studio. The part she sang wasnt brutal at all and I didnt wanna tell her what it was about because I figured she might be like “Gross… HELL NO!” Haha! So we kept our lyrical content on the DL. But when we asked her and showed her the part it was a piece of cake for her! We are glad to have such an amazing voice on the album!

Planet Loud – Are there any other vocalists you would like to work with?
Rose Funeral – We do hope to work with some. I am a huge fan of Dallas of Nile. I had been talking to him about appearing on GOP, but he was busy getting ready to head to Europe. So we will be contacting him again for the later upcoming release! I also really like Eliot from Beneath The Massacre and Bill from Decrepit Birth. Such sick bands!

Planet Loud – Okay, just to finish off, what are your plans to promote the album?
Rose Funeral – We plan on touring quite a bit. US, Canada, Mexico, and Over Seas. Pouring out some sweet merch deals on our FaceBook!

Planet Loud – Thanks for your time, anything else you want to say?
Rose Funeral – Thank you guys for the opportunity we hope to talk again soon! We will see you all IN HELL!
