Sonic Syndicate
We Rule The Night
Nuclear Blast
Having won their record contract with Nuclear Blast through a contest that the label held, there was a great hope that Sonic Syndicate could amount to something special. While their second album (1st for Nuclear Blast) ‘Only Inhuman’ promised much, the follow up ‘Love and Other Disasters’ failed to match that potential. That coupled with the loss of the original vocalist Roland Johansson, left Sonic Syndicate with a lot of work to do. Now however the band are back with a new vocalist Nathan James Biggs and a new album ‘We Rule The Night’.
The first couple of tracks ‘Beauty and the Freak’ and ‘Revolution, Baby’ give the album a promising start and show more of that potential from ‘Only Inhuman’. However from there on in it all becomes rather disappointing. The rest of the album is all rather mundane with nothing really to it. There is nothing to give it a distinctive sound and it ends up being and album that could have been released by pretty much any one. Even if you include the two opening tracks, which are the best things about the album, there is nothing that is going to stand the test of time. That being said though Biggs does a pretty decent job on vocal duty, but there is only so much he can do given the below par elements that make up the rest of the songs.
‘We Rule The Night’ is a sub-standard effort from Sonic Syndicate, who have previously shown they can produce so much more. After listening to the album a few times I can’t help but wonder where the band goes from here. A big improvement is needed on their next album and I’m not longer convinced they can produce the goods.
