The Elijah ( Oswestry, England)
‘Epic’ is a much over-used word these days, but we’re going to dust if off and wheel it out once again in response to Shropshire’s The Elijah. Certainly not to everyone’s taste, but expansive and technically impressive whatever way you look at it, the five-piece fuse ambience (and the backing of a 30-strong orchestra on their new EP) with thoughtful, slow-burning post-hardcore, to produce something truly impressive. It’ll be interesting to see whether they can pull off the same mesmeric effect with their live shows; either way, they’re definitely worth a glance. Their EP ‘A Son; A Disease’ features striking artwork and even some more striking tunes… The Elijah have evidently put a lot of time and thought into the release, and for fans of (the non instrumental) Heights, Flood Of Red, and all melody-rich, heartfelt post-hardcore, it’s a near essential spin.
