Planet Loud had a quick chat with Jesse from hard rockers Vain Of Jenna to find out more about their forthcoming new covers album, Reverse Tripped.
Planet Loud – Hey Jesse. So we’re all very excited for Reverse Tripped! Tell us a little more!
Vains Of Jenna – Well, Deadline/Cleopatra gave us an opportunity to do a covers record and had a good time with it. The most recent track, as everyone knows is cee-lo’s “fuck you”. We had such blast recording the song but it wasn’t part of the roster in the beginning. Initially we were goin’ way back and a lot of the songs on the album are by artists who really influenced us as musicians… done our way of course. It comes out on April 5th, and the release party will be on April 1st at the whisky a go-go.
Planet Loud – We’ve heard your awesome cover of the very infectious “Fuck You” and the trippy video that goes with it…. What led you to pick that song?
Vains Of Jenna – Well the label thought it might be cool for us to do something with a Top 40 song. We heard it on the radio and we got a kick out of it so we recorded it. Every time we have played it live there has been a huge response so we feel really good about the song.
Planet Loud – Can we expect any surprises on the albums? Any covers that will mess with us a little but ultimately win us over?
Vains Of Jenna – Lots!!
Planet Loud – So you’ve been with the band for nearly a year now. Do you have any highlights yet?
Vains Of Jenna – just the fact that we get to travel to different parts of the world and play music for people! Every show is a highlight.
Planet Loud – The fans have really taken you to their hearts, which today is quite a difficult task to achieve in an already well-established band with such dedicated fans. How do you feel, knowing that the fans, like the band, aren’t looking back?
Vains Of Jenna – VOJ fans are awesome!! Looking back has never really been an issue for me. I will always have respect for Lizzy and for what he did with Vains and I will stay as true as I can to everything they have done in the past. But this is the band now. I’m so grateful that VOJ has such awesome fans who continue to grow and evolve with the band.
Planet Loud – We heard a couple of re-recordings from ‘The Art of telling Lies’ with your vocals on, so how long can we expect to wait before we hear an album of new music with you at the helm?
Vains Of Jenna – I’m really stoked about the music we’ve been writing together. We expect to start recording and releasing some of these songs this year.
Planet Loud – The band clearly took a slightly different direction on the last album, how do you think you fit into that sound and can we expect something similar, or something completely different in the future?
Vains Of Jenna – VOJ is always gonna be a rock band. You can expect to hear some fuckin rock n roll!! Nuff said..
Planet Loud – For the die-hard Vains of Jenna fans in the UK, here’s your chance to leave a message, nice, naughty or otherwise!!
Vains Of Jenna – We love you guys! Lets rock!
Planet Loud – Finally, we love it when you guys tour the UK! When will you be back?
Vains Of Jenna – some if the best times I’ve had on tour were in the UK. We’re not sure of the exact date but we should be back in the UK soon.
