INTRODUCING INTERVIEW | MORE INTERVIEWS | SUBMIT MATERIAL Can you introduce yourselves please? Don Fernando - We are Don Fernando, a heavy rock band from Melbourne Australia, I am Andy on vocals and guitars. Can you give us a quick background to the band? When you formed, any CDs out? Don Fernando - The band has been around in various forms since 2004, started in a small town (Wollongong), moved to the Big Smoke, got a new rhythm section and haven't looked back since. Released an EP in 2005 called "It's Good While It Lasts" which was a pretty limited pressing that didn't go out to shops but it did sell out pretty quickly. We released our debut album recently which was a national release in Australia and has just been released in Europe through Undertow Recordings. Why did you form a band? Don Fernando - I initially formed the band as a side project as I had a heap of songs that didn't fit with the band I was in (Rockafella). When that band broke up I made Don Fernando my primary focus. Which band or musicians have had the biggest impact on your life? Don Fernando - I picked up the guitar because of Jimi Hendrix (not that I play anything like him) but I would have to say when I was introduced to Kyuss with the release of "Welcome to Sky Valley" my destiny was clear - form a band with fat guitars and tour the world! Now it's happening! Can you describe your sound to our readers? Don Fernando - Think a wall of sound guitars. We have worked pretty hard to find a sound that hits you right in the bowel with thumping drums and some serious bottom end that has been known to cause involuntary bowel movements. We take this bottom heavy sound and find riffs and melodies that make you want to sing along and dance like a stupid motherfucker. Describe your live show to us.. Don Fernando - Take the above sound and add high leg kicks, a bit of extra screaming, some radical guitar moves and good times. Some of the subject matter can be pretty serious but were really there to have a good time, sink a few pints and sell a few CD's. Basically the shows are fun and we give you something exciting to look at.....oh yeah and LOUD. Tell us about your first gig together? Don Fernando - Our first gig was in a bowling club (lawn bowls) and we probably played shithouse but everybody had a good time and we got it out of the way and drank a lot to hide the pain! Any funny gig stories you can tell us about? Don Fernando - One time a bunch of girls jumped on stage and one of them started stripping which was rad but the funniest thing was a chick grabbed my mic just as we were gonna go into the chorus and I thought "fuck off bitch, thats my mic" but she actually sang the chorus word for word and was better than me. What are your goals with the band? Don Fernando - World domination, what else is there?? What do you think about the rock scene at the moment? Don Fernando - I only really know about Australia and it's not as good as it used to be. There's a lot of bands but not such a huge audience. That's why we're coming over to Europe! What are your upcoming plans? Don Fernando - Do the European tour, come home and record out next album, release the album and do it all over again. Next time hopefully with some tour support and bigger venues and bigger audiences. Which member of the band has the most annoying habit? Don Fernando - That would have to be me and the habit would have to be telling everyone what to do. If you had a question for any musician out there alive or dead, who would it be for and what would the question be? Don Fernando - It would have to be for Keith Moon and it would be "Can we hang out together?" What advice would you give someone thinking of forming a band? Don Fernando - Do it and dont give a fuck what anyone says. Write the songs that you want to hear and if you're a shit song writer get a good song writer to help you. Don't hold anything back and don't be half assed about it. In the end it's all about the songs, that's the legacy you leave behind so make sure they're not shit. Thanks for your time.
