INTRODUCING INTERVIEW![]() Can you introduce yourselves please? Shotgun Riot - Sure thing.. Tom Brown - Guitar / Vocals, Adam White - Bass / Vocals, Chalky - Drums, Andrew Jones - Guitar. We have a new vocalist coming soon - Danny Hannaford is filling in and doing a great job! Can you give us a quick background to the band? When you formed, any CDs out? Shotgun Riot - We formed around December 2007 and quickly got enough material ready for a set and started getting on as many shows as possible. We then had an opportunity to go into a studio to record a 5 track EP in the early summer. The producer we went with really screwed it up and made a lot of mistakes that couldn't be rectified plus it didn't represent us as a band so we decided to redo the whole thing. It was mostly recorded at Toms Home studio setup with the drums being done in a friends studio and the vocals at James' dads studio. We then took it back to Toms and mixed/mastered it. This took a fair amount of time but we are now much happier with result. Our debut record 'The Real Rock and Roll' came out via Glasstone Records on the 7th September in digital download format only. We've had 2 music videos for Black Widowed and Hear Me Roar. The latter being a free single download from 9th November. With it came a 'Black Widowed + Symphony' version of the song composed by Tom and his friend Joe. Why did you form a band? Shotgun Riot - We just love playing music and that's what we want to do as our life/career. That and also in the words of Motley Crue...Girls Girls Girls. (laughs) Which band or musicians have had the biggest impact on your life? Shotgun Riot - We all have an impact on ourselves and that's why we play and write what we do so I'm going to have say each other. Of course there are bands and musicians we all take influence from. From my perspective I would say John Petrucci from Dream Theater is a massive influence and a role model in the way of discipline, practice, style, technique, in what he plays and in how he is. Can you describe your sound to our readers? Shotgun Riot - To put it simply I guess 'Gritty Rock' would be a good description. It's a mixture of classic riffs with the aggression of more modern punk/hardcore... Describe your live show to us.. Shotgun Riot - Definitely enjoyable for us and hopefully for whoever is watching as well. There are some serious shapes being thrown out there - running, dancing, falling over, climbing. Pretty intense and we usually suffer the day after with whiplash. We like to provide an energetic performance. If want to hear the music played 100% perfectly you can listen to our CD. Tell us about your first gig together? Shotgun Riot - Was a good first show, we were main support and had a good crowd. It was at a venue called the Green Room in Welwyn which we've played a few times since then. Any funny gig stories you can tell us about? Shotgun Riot - Not so much funny but more creepy is probably the best one. It was back on our tour in September 2008. We were driving on the South Coast through a forest, it was foggy and there were no road lights (typical horror setup). It was so foggy Tom had to put the vans' full beams on and as he did he had to swerve to miss something on the road. After the initial shock - 30 secs later we were all like....did we just see a person dragging another person across the road to a car from the forest...it looked like the person being dragged was not in good condition. Maybe we should have gone back to check.. instead of going fuck that we are off. What are your goals with the band? Shotgun Riot - To write, record and tour the world, to live the dream and enjoy every minute. I think that's almost as many goals as Jermain Defoe gets in one match these days. What do you think about the rock scene at the moment? Shotgun Riot - In the UK it seems to be quite healthy at the moment. We've played with and seen a lot of great rock bands recently, our boys in Young Guns are making a lot noise on the scene and others like Outcry Collective, Deaf Havana and of course Ghost Of A Thousand are doing great for themselves. What are your upcoming plans? Shotgun Riot - Over the Christmas period we are going to start work on a follow up to our debut release and are planning to hit the road in 2010 with tours starting to be put into place. One thing we are really looking into his hitting Europe - Germany etc in the summer time. Which member of the band has the most annoying habit? Shotgun Riot - Neil did. So much we kicked him out (laughs). It was more habits than just a habit including diva strops and negative attitudes. If you had a question for any musician out there alive or dead, who would it be for and what would the question be? Shotgun Riot - It would have to be Freddie Mercury. I wouldn't have any particular questions it would just have been amazing to share some time with such an inspirational man. What advice would you give someone thinking of forming a band? Shotgun Riot - To remember a band is a band so the art of compromise and honesty are the keys to make it work. Thanks for your time. Anything else to say, plug, complain about, promote? Shotgun Riot - Tours are in place for 2010, but there's nothing to announce just yet....but coming soon...new singer, new tour dates, new music.
