IN THE PIT VIEW COMMENTS [0 Comments] | ADD COMMENTS | This Legion Eddies Rock Club, Birmingham 15 January 2010 A lot of support has come in for This Legion tonight as they celebrate the release of their Reasons E.P. and when they hit the stage they hit it hard. Their energetic stage presence and the inclusion of guest vocalists all adds to the already feverish excitement, but while the band hit all the right notes there is nothing new here and after a night of breakdowns and two-stepping it's all beginning to sound the same. Not that the same could be said about openers Morgue Orgy who are confident and fill their set with personality. Musically they take thrash, deathcore and black metal use them to create something that stands out from the breakdown obsessed modern death scene. Maybe it's because of this that they fail to grab the crowds attention but despite this they give one of the best performances of the night. Following that was never going to be easy but for the most part For Untold Reasons step up to the mark. More hardcore than the rest of the acts on the bill, they batter the crowd with endless breakdowns and two-stepping. Vocalist Aaron Matts is charismatic and even if he can't quite manage the more guttural growls due to a cold he and the rest of the band give a tight performance that finally gets the crowd moving, although it can't disguise the repetitive nature of their songs. Making statement from the get go as vocalist Paul jumps into the crowd to get them moving, Desolated go on to steal the night with their beatdown infused death. Everyone on stage is clearly having a blast as the crowd scream along and flail their arms to every song. In comparison This Legions' performance, with all their energy and enthusiasm, fails to stand out. Too many of the songs follow an all too typical deathcore pattern that begins to grow tiresome despite the bands best efforts. Still they keep the crowd going, helped by guest performances from Dan from The Armada Movement and Paul from Desolated, and by the end of the night everyone is exhausted.
