IN THE PIT VIEW COMMENTS [0 Comments] | ADD COMMENTS | Martyr Defiled Sugarmill, Stoke-On-Trent 16 February 2010 Silent Screams aren’t playing tonight, despite being advertised, so it’s up to Your Chariot Awaits and Martyr Defiled to pick up the slack after an awful performance from Beyond a Traitors Reason. Despite some clear musical talent they bore the crowd with their take on melodic hardcore. Their plight isn’t helped by the fact that their vocalist clearly wants to be the next Oli Sykes, with vocals straight from Suicide Season and his stage presence stolen from any BMTH gig. Your Chariot Awaits fair much better with their confident brand of deathcore and an energetic performance which gives the crowd something to sink their teeth into. Failing limbs and two-stepping scenesters are the name of the game as this young band impress both musically and vocally for the entirety of their all too short set. Once Your Chariot Awaits leave the stage the excitement slowly reaches fever pitch as the crowd eagerly waits for Martyr Defiled to come on, and although it takes a couple of songs for them to hit their stride, they do not disappoint. Playing pity much the entirety of their Ecophagy E.P. along with their new single Plaguebearer, it’s a set that has people almost diving on the stage to scream the words back at vocalist Matt Jones. With a clear sound and an enthusiasm that matches the crowd the band storm through a surprisingly short but memorable set. Matt Jones really connects with the crowd as he gleefully tells the fans that downloading music isn’t the kiss of death to bands and discusses game consoles between each breakdown laden tune. The curfew rolls around all too soon, but the crowd leaves knowing they’ve seen a young band about to hit their prime. Bring on their album because it looms like it’s going to be massive!
