RECORD REVIEW Dark TranquilityWe Are The Void (Century Media) VIEW COMMENTS [0 Comments] | ADD COMMENTS Dark Tranquillity are legends, end of conversation. Their early work helped shaped the modern day metal scene and their latter work continues to push the band forward musically while enhancing their reputation. It’s been three years since the band released ‘Fiction’, but the long awaited follow up ‘We Are The Void’ is finally here. The bands ninth album is instantly recognisable as Dark Tranquillity, yet it still manages to sound different to all of the previous eight albums. Of course there as similarities especially with the newer material, but Dark Tranquillity have a good habit of making every album, just that little bit different. Opening track ‘Shadow In Our Blood’ sets the bar high and the rest of the album maintains that standard as a minimum. There is a nice mixture to the album, while tracks like ‘The Fatalist’ and ‘Arkhangelsk’ bring out the brutal and harsh side of the band, they are counter balanced by the claming ‘The Grand Accusation’ and ‘At The Point Of Ignition’. Dark Tranquillity excel in both styles and the combination just helps to varied the album. It is however left to closing track ‘Iridium’ to provide the ultimate highlight. It is an epic six-minute plus song that closes off a fantastic album in stunning fashion. After nine albums you could forgive a band if they were starting to run a little short of ideas, but that is no such problem for Dark Tranquillity. ‘We Are The Void’ is as fresh and intriguing as their first album. Yet again the band have managed to come up with a classic and it serves to be another reminder just why Dark Tranquillity are considered legends in their own time. - Rating [9] Release Date - 01 March 2010 Reviewed by Simon Douglass Find more articles on Dark Tranquility Find YouTube Videos on Dark Tranquility Download We Are The Void here Related Tags USER COMMENTS - 0 Comments ADD COMMENT |
