RECORD REVIEW NoMadeSense The Epillanic Choragi (Basick Records) Having just had my senses mauled by the new Mastodon record, my poor body was not prepared for the sonic complexity that is NoMadeSense and their new album, The Epillanic Choragi. Coupling raging metal with the sort of progressive terror used by the likes of Neurosis and their ilk, The Epillanic Choragi is an album that will send pulses through every nerve end in your body. Each chapter on this album is a complex, enormous, sprawling soundscape of brutal metal, pyschadelic effects and mind-bending, drug-induced progressive rock. This is what Neurosis would sound like if they came from the grotty streets of Reading. Take the nine minute wailing, heaving Entases of Azure which, after spending the first four minutes pummelling your brains into a bastard mush then gives you a total headfuck with a mellow section before demolishing what little you had left of a brain with five more minutes of grinding carnage. Just to headfuck you even more head on to the fantastic Milachis Depths a thirteen minute journey through some of the smartest, progressive metal you’re likely to hear from any British band. Ever. Remember what I said about Neurosis earlier? Well, imagine if they’d come over here and jammed with Earthtone9. Whilst on mind-bending drugs. This record is that much of a headfuck. It is also that good! This is by far one of the most intelligent “metal” albums to come out of the UK in a long time, every twist and every turn pulls your senses in a different direction. May I suggest that if you’ve picked up the new Mastodon record then this should be next on your list. Quite simply, you need this band in your life. - Rating [10] Release Date - 23 March 2009 Reviewed by Graham Finney Find more articles on NoMadeSense Find YouTube Videos on NoMadeSense Download The Epillanic Choragi here Related Tags |
